The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Giants walked right past. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They banked enough surplus on Roush to cover a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Graves reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Bell at slot 37 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Sam Roush in pick 105, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kaytron Allen in pick No. 145 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Aaron Graves at the 186th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, VJ Payne went about where he belonged in No. 192. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Toriano Pride Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 12. A need, and now a little less of one.
