Miami Dolphins

Nobody dealt better than the Dolphins this weekend: A-.

The Deven Eastern pick is the one that will follow the Dolphins into the fall. They took him 47 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Sonny Styles and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Olaivavega Ioane · OG · rank 22
In slot 18 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In the 30th overall pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Gabe Jacas · LB-EDGE · rank 52
They paid a round early for Gabe Jacas in pick No. 43, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
They barely believed it either: Jake Slaughter still on the board at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.23 · Pick 87 · Caden Curry · DE-EDGE · rank 130
They talked themselves into Caden Curry at pick 87, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.30 · Pick 94 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 115
They left a pile of value on the table to take Michael Trigg this early at No. 94. It fills a real need, too.
R5.11 · Pick 151 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 193
A real head-scratcher, Cole Payton in pick No. 151 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.40 · Pick 180 · Josh Cameron · WR · rank 184
Josh Cameron at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.30 · Pick 211 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 192
Taking Eric McAlister in the 211th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.11 · Pick 227 · Nick Barrett · DL · rank 251
Nick Barrett in slot 227 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Deven Eastern · DL · rank 281
A big swing on Deven Eastern at pick 234, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Jack Kelly · LB · rank 253
A conviction pick on Jack Kelly at Round 7, Pick 22 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
