Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Kalil Alexander at slot 227 is 66 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, tight end and other spots went begging.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
In No. 30 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Elijah Sarratt. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Caden Curry, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Skyler Bell at pick 87 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jalon Kilgore at cornerback with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kaleb Proctor well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Nadame Tucker at Round 4, Pick 30, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Charles Demmings at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kalil Alexander in pick 227, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Adam Randall at the 238th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
