The war room fell hard for Deven Eastern, and it showed at slot 238: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Olaivavega Ioane at pick 24 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Chris Johnson at the 43rd pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow A.J. Haulcy was still sitting there in No. 75, and they pounced on premier safety value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Eli Stowers at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Hezekiah Masses at the 130th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Value said wait; Nadame Tucker in slot 151 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Taylen Green. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Josh Cameron in the 188th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 207 with a little surplus value in Cole Payton. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Eric McAlister is a better player than the 211th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Landon Robinson was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 11. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Deven Eastern at No. 238, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Adam Randall at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
