You can hear the double-takes from here. The Dolphins took Kalil Alexander at No. 227, roughly 68 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Stowers. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, running back and other spots went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Mansoor Delane at the 11th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A big swing on Elijah Sarratt at slot 43, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They liked Skyler Bell enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 11. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Eli Stowers at pick 90 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Jalon Kilgore at cornerback with quarterback, running back and other spots open.
Nadame Tucker at the 130th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah World in pick 151 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kalil Alexander in slot 227, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Deven Eastern in Round 7, Pick 22 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
