The board owed the Broncos one, and it paid up: Mansoor Delane, the No. 8 name on the board, sitting there at No. 170 like a gift left on the doorstep. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
Every board in the league had Thomas lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Darrell Jackson Jr. in the Round 2 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Jack Endries in pick 108, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Deion Burks at pick No. 111 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Mansoor Delane was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 30, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Noah Thomas in No. 246 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Deven Eastern in the 256th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Caullin Lacy in slot 257 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
