Nobody had Bishop Fitzgerald this high, and it is not close. The Chargers reached 68 spots to get him at the Round 2 slot. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The Harris pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If Chris Brazzell II and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Bishop Fitzgerald at No. 55 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Keylan Rutledge in pick No. 86 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bryce Boettcher this early at slot 123. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Zxavian Harris in the 204th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
