The Chiefs torched the value chart for Madden Sanker, taking him 307 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
Slaughter falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. They left with tight end solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a bendy edge with upside. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 29 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A big swing on Tanner Koziol at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Jerry Wilson at the 74th pick, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R Mason Thomas at pick No. 109 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
A running back of that caliber at pick 148 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Madden Sanker well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in pick No. 176, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jalen Catalon at the 210th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
