The tape said wait; the Cowboys did not. Michael Harris went at the 92nd pick, a good 259 picks before the board was ready. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
The Roberts pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early. Need was not the driver here.
In pick No. 20 they get a matchup problem out wide, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
They talked themselves into Michael Harris at No. 92, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Demond Claiborne in pick 112 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and CJ Daniels at Round 5, Pick 12 is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jaeden Roberts in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Matt Gulbin in the 180th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Miles Kitselman in No. 218 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
