Nobody had Shamar Easter this high, and it is not close. The Jets reached 265 spots to get him at pick 33. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barham.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Marquez Valdes-Scantling deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.16 · Pick 16 · Zachariah Branch · WR · rank 60
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Xavier Nwankpa · S · rank 236
In the 28th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Shamar Easter · TE · rank 298
They left a pile of value on the table to take Shamar Easter this early at slot 33. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Denzel Boston · WR · rank 30
The board fumbled Denzel Boston all the way to No. 53, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Hezekiah Masses · CB · rank 137
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hezekiah Masses. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · Nadame Tucker · DE-EDGE · rank 174
Nadame Tucker at Round 4, Pick 40 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Jaishawn Barham · LB-EDGE · rank 128
Somehow Jaishawn Barham was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.35 · Pick 216 · Markis Deal · DL · rank 364
They talked themselves into Markis Deal at the 216th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Matthew Sluka · QB · rank 422
Matthew Sluka in pick 228 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · Turner Corcoran · OT · rank 382
Turner Corcoran in pick No. 242 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
