The Packers bet big and early on Dominic Zvada, 181 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
That Stowers pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Zvada pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, running back and other spots. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caleb Banks in the 52nd pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Devin Moore in the 84th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A curious use of pick No. 120. Edge rusher, running back and other spots needed the pick; a specialist in Dominic Zvada did not.
Jalen Stroman at pick 160 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Eli Stowers at Round 6, Pick 20 for years; that is how good the value is. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Caleb Douglas at slot 236 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Diego Pavia in Round 7, Pick 39, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
