The rest of the league had time to spare on Jaylon Braxton; the Saints did not wait, grabbing him 187 spots ahead at Round 4, Pick 22.
That Howell pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade work was a quiet net positive. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a double-digit-sack hope, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value said wait; Domonique Orange in pick No. 42 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylon Braxton this early at slot 122. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Skyler Bell in the 132nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Brian Parker II in the 136th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in pick 150, with Eli Raridon worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jadarian Price in pick 172, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Cashius Howell was still sitting there in slot 190, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Joey Aguilar at No. 215, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
You do not let a cornerback like Chandler Rivers reach the 231st pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
