Boards are made to be trusted, and the Steelers shredded theirs for Samson Okunlola. He came off 382 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A mixed bag that lands at C-.
That Coleman pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Carmona pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman still on the board. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Hit on Samson Okunlola and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
They robbed the room for Fernando Mendoza here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: A.J. Haulcy at pick 76 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Shawn Murphy at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went offensive lineman with Fernando Carmona while clear needs at interior defensive lineman sat open.
No edge and no loss on Justin Joly in pick No. 121; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Carnell Tate at Round 4, Pick 35 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Keaten Wade at slot 161 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jonah Coleman in No. 224 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brent Austin. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Oscar Delp at pick 237 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
