There is reaching, and then there is Jude Bowry at the 105th overall pick. The Giants jumped the board by 25 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Hunter to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Adding Kingsley Suamataia by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Colton Hood and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
KC Concepcion at pick 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking Lee Hunter in the 70th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Jude Bowry at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Kaytron Allen at par in the 145th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Anez Cooper at pick No. 186 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Aamil Wagner was the payoff at No. 192. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ephesians Prysock at slot 193 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
