The Packers bet big and early on Pat Coogan, 44 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Miller falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dani Dennis-Sutton. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on Christen Miller in slot 68, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
Julian Neal in pick No. 120 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Kage Casey at No. 153, and it noticed. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Pat Coogan at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Kaelon Black at the 201st pick, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Josh Cuevas at Round 7, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Joey Aguilar at pick 255 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
