The Saints went off the board in a big way for Caden Curry, 58 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 8 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Bell at No. 42, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Caden Curry this early at slot 73. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trey Moore in pick 132, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They did well to land Oscar Delp in Round 4, Pick 36, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Beau Stephens at the 150th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Matt Gulbin at slot 172 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zavion Thomas at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
