Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Saints spent pick No. 136 on Trey Moore, a name the board had a full 48 spots lower. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Endries at that price is a win they earned.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Chris Bell in the 42nd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Treydan Stukes at the 73rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jack Endries slipping to slot 132 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Trey Moore at pick 136 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Beau Stephens, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Matt Gulbin in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zavion Thomas in Round 6, Pick 9, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
