Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Saints will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Igbinosun pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Every board in the league had Gill-Howard lower, and that gap is the story. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 8 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Good price on Emmanuel Pregnon in the 42nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Jacob Rodriguez in pick 73, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Davison Igbinosun in the 132nd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Skyler Gill-Howard enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Charles Demmings in Round 5, Pick 10; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Aaron Anderson at slot 172, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Josh Cameron, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
