The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Saints reached some 44 spots for Trey Moore, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Allar value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Carnell Tate in the 8th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Anthony Hill Jr. at pick No. 42 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Treydan Stukes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Endries in pick 132. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trey Moore in slot 136 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Matt Gulbin in the Round 5 slot, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Drew Allar higher than the 172nd overall pick, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Zavion Thomas at Round 6, Pick 9 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
