Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on James to cover a lot of smaller sins.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Kris Jenkins in pick 50 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Worthy in slot 54 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking D.J. James in pick No. 97 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cedric Gray at Round 5, Pick 1 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
LaDarius Henderson in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 164 with a little surplus value in Cody Schrader. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Chau Smith-Wade slid further than he should have, and pick No. 166 is lovely value for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylan Ford at the 167th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Roger Rosengarten at No. 172 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trey Knox in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No edge and no loss on Javon Baker in pick 178; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Jefferson at the 179th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 7. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Omar Speights at par in the 200th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jordan Magee is a better player than pick No. 201 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Christian Jones for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 32, with Jalen Berger worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jalen Green in No. 209 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Kingsley Eguakun in pick 212, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They let Brevyn Spann-Ford come to them and pounced at slot 224. It fills a real need, too.
Zakhari Franklin at the 243rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ja'Had Carter at Round 7, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The roster fit checks out.
