Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent Round 7, Pick 27 on Adam Randall, a name the board had a full 32 spots lower.
They banked enough surplus on Lew to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Banks. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Anthony Hill Jr. still on the board at the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Chase Bisontis in the 69th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Connor Lew at pick 106 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Tanner Koziol at pick No. 141, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
They jumped the gun on Domani Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
Adam Randall in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
