The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Packers reached some 87 spots for Patrick Payton, and value like that does not grow back.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Hurst at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Keith Abney II at pick No. 62 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jacob Rodriguez in the 92nd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They robbed the room for Ted Hurst here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Malik Muhammad in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Patrick Payton at the 160th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaiah Jatta well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in the 236th overall pick, with TJ Hall worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nothing to complain about; Desmond Reid went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
