The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jake Slaughter, Round 3, Pick 33, roughly 42 picks past where he belonged.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They will need Moore to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Monroe Freeling at the 12th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
In Round 1, Pick 19 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy little value on Chris Johnson in pick No. 39, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Eli Stowers slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Jake Slaughter at slot 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Louis Moore at pick 149 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
