The Browns put a flag in the ground for Will Kacmarek, 65 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Haulcy.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 20th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Hill Jr. at pick 39, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A.J. Haulcy at pick No. 70 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalon Kilgore at No. 107 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; CJ Daniels went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dametrious Crownover in pick 149 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Taylen Green in slot 206, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Will Kacmarek at the 248th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
