The Will Kacmarek pick is the one that will follow the Browns into the fall. They took him 65 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Getting Everette where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback, though they paid up to get him.
They read the board right and Denzel Boston was the payoff at Round 2, Pick 7. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A safety of that caliber at the 70th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Daylen Everette at No. 109 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dametrious Crownover. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A big swing on Taylen Green at pick No. 149, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Jeremiah Wright at the 206th pick, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Will Kacmarek in pick 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
