Somebody in No. 127 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Ja'Kobi Lane, the No. 98 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Reaching for Stephens left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 27 they get a long-term starter on the line, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Romello Height at par in No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Ja'Kobi Lane in the 127th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Beau Stephens at the 133rd pick, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kaleb Proctor in pick 138. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good price on Oscar Delp in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
