When the story of this class is written, it opens with Micah Morris at the Round 7 slot, a reach of 85 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Ponds pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had cheaper options than LT Overton at pick No. 52, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Lee Hunter in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Christen Miller in No. 85 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 90th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Jonah Coleman still on the board at slot 94. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bryce Lance in pick 99. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Logan Jones at pick 120 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a tight end like Sam Roush reach Round 4, Pick 21 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nadame Tucker at the 135th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Albert Regis in slot 160 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Kage Casey at pick No. 161, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Red Murdock well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taylen Green this early at the 166th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; Jeff Caldwell at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
TJ Hall in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
John Michael Gyllenborg in slot 227 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Alan Herron in pick No. 230 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Aiden Fisher at Round 7, Pick 20 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They went early on Desmond Reid in pick 237, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Micah Morris in the 238th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
