The war room fell hard for Micah Morris, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 41: 66 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Getting Cuevas where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
If Dani Dennis-Sutton and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They talked themselves into Dani Dennis-Sutton at Round 2, Pick 20, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Tyreak Sapp, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Julian Neal in pick No. 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Albert Regis a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Red Murdock at slot 201 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach on Robert Henry Jr. in pick 236; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Alan Herron in Round 7, Pick 39, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Josh Cuevas was the payoff at the 256th pick. The roster fit checks out.
Micah Morris at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
