There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Noah Thomas a full 100 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
Landing Hunter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
If Lee Hunter and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Lee Hunter reach the 84th pick and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyreak Sapp at slot 91 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Julian Neal at No. 120, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Trey Zuhn III at the 126th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
They paid up for Demond Claiborne at pick 153 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They talked themselves into Red Murdock at the Round 5 slot, and the board did not agree. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They let Ephesians Prysock come to them and pounced at the 201st overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
John Michael Gyllenborg in pick No. 236 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jordan Hudson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Noah Thomas at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Fernando Carmona in slot 257 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
