When the story of this class is written, it opens with Deion Colzie at the Round 7 slot, a reach of 190 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
However the rest shakes out, Igbinosun at that price is a win they earned. The Upton Stout pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyreak Sapp at pick 63 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Mike Washington Jr. at Round 3, Pick 20 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Brian Parker II at par in the 108th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let a cornerback like Davison Igbinosun reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Nadame Tucker in No. 139 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Hezekiah Masses slid further than he should have, and the 153rd pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Eli Raridon still on the board at No. 160. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A slide stopped in pick 167, with Zxavian Harris worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Red Murdock at pick No. 173, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
Taylen Green at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Patrick Payton. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They read the board right and VJ Payne was the payoff at the 211th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Alan Herron at Round 7, Pick 20, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Deven Eastern at slot 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
TJ Hall at the 253rd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Dasan McCullough in pick No. 255 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Emmanuel Henderson Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
A wild overpay on Deion Colzie in the 257th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
