Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Zakee Wheatley got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Jatta has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Arvell Reese in Round 1, Pick 12 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
In pick 20 they get a green-dot type in the middle. The biggest hole, addressed.
Nice patience on Daylen Everette, who had no business lasting to No. 92. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zakee Wheatley at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah World at slot 152. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Domani Jackson at pick No. 177 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeff Caldwell at the 180th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Isaiah Jatta at the 218th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
