Green Bay Packers

The Packers did enough to get by: C+.

The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Mikail Kamara, taking him 50 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.

A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Payne falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

If Blake Miller and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.27 · Pick 59 · Blake Miller · OT · rank 57
They paid sticker price for Blake Miller in Round 2, Pick 27, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 106
Value said wait; Keylan Rutledge in the Round 3 slot says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.24 · Pick 88 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 81
Daylen Everette in slot 88 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.35 · Pick 99 · Mikail Kamara · DE-EDGE · rank 149
A wild overpay on Mikail Kamara in pick No. 99, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 131
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at the 106th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 156
Nate Boerkircher in pick 120 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 157
Demond Claiborne at slot 124 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 172
A conviction pick on Domani Jackson at the 160th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.20 · Pick 201 · VJ Payne · S · rank 191
A quiet steal in pick No. 201: VJ Payne for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R7.20 · Pick 236 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 247
They liked Bryce Foster enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. It fills a real need, too.
R7.39 · Pick 255 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 254
Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 255 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
