You can hear the double-takes from here. The Packers took Demond Claiborne at Round 4, Pick 21, roughly 43 spots before his name belonged. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
They banked enough surplus on Everette to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
Keylan Rutledge at the 59th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Davison Igbinosun in slot 69, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Bryce Lance at the 76th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Daylen Everette in pick 120 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Demond Claiborne in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
DeMonte Capehart at Round 5, Pick 1 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Kage Casey in Round 5, Pick 20; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid sticker price for Nate Boerkircher in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Robert Spears-Jennings well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Bryce Foster in pick 236 says they were not listening. The roster fit checks out.
Riley Mahlman in the 255th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
