Call it belief, call it a gut call, but PJ Williams at the 255th pick is 48 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. However the rest shakes out, Igbinosun at that price is a win they earned.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
If Gennings Dunker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Gennings Dunker, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Keylan Rutledge at the Round 2 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 6 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, De'Zhaun Stribling in No. 120, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 121 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 123 with a little surplus value in Julian Neal. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Nate Boerkircher in pick 135 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Demond Claiborne went about where he belonged in pick No. 160. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Kage Casey at Round 5, Pick 21 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
VJ Payne at the 201st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Robert Spears-Jennings in the 236th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
