Green Bay Packers

The Packers let Golday fall and pounced. Final grade: C.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Jake Golday, the No. 64 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 120th pick.

They will need Green to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.23 · Pick 55 · Caleb Tiernan · OT · rank 57
Caleb Tiernan at the 55th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 74
Keylan Rutledge at No. 59 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · D'Angelo Ponds · CB · rank 48
D'Angelo Ponds at Round 3, Pick 21 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Jake Golday · OLB · rank 64
Jake Golday in pick 120 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Tacario Davis · CB · rank 111
Tacario Davis is a better player than the Round 4 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 138
DeMonte Capehart in slot 123 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Kage Casey · OT · rank 161
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kage Casey well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 163
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nate Boerkircher. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.13 · Pick 153 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 164
Demond Claiborne at No. 153 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 179
A real head-scratcher, Domani Jackson in the 160th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.21 · Pick 161 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 193
A wild overpay on Taylen Green in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.20 · Pick 201 · VJ Payne · S · rank 200
VJ Payne at slot 201 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R7.20 · Pick 236 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 238
No drama and no debate, Robert Spears-Jennings went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 20. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.39 · Pick 255 · Bryce Foster · C · rank 261
Bryce Foster in the 255th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
