Green Bay Packers

The Packers landed square in the muddy middle: C.

The Packers torched the value chart for Riley Mahlman, taking him 45 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

Jackson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.24 · Pick 56 · Gennings Dunker · OG · rank 52
Good price on Gennings Dunker in the 56th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Keylan Rutledge · OG · rank 74
They went early on Keylan Rutledge in slot 58, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Daylen Everette · CB · rank 83
Nothing to complain about; Daylen Everette went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.36 · Pick 100 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 96
Bryce Lance in Round 3, Pick 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Julian Neal · CB · rank 119
Julian Neal at the 120th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · DeMonte Capehart · DT · rank 138
The board had cheaper options than DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Mason Reiger · LB-EDGE · rank 150
A wild overpay on Mason Reiger in pick No. 124, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.38 · Pick 138 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 164
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nate Boerkircher in the Round 4 slot, miles early. The roster fit checks out.
R4.39 · Pick 139 · Demond Claiborne · RB · rank 165
Demond Claiborne in the 139th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.13 · Pick 153 · Kage Casey · OT · rank 162
They liked Kage Casey enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 153. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.20 · Pick 160 · Cole Payton · QB · rank 202
Value said wait; Cole Payton in No. 160 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.20 · Pick 201 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 180
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 20 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.20 · Pick 236 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 243
By-the-book stuff, Lander Barton at pick 236 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.39 · Pick 255 · Riley Mahlman · OT · rank 300
They talked themselves into Riley Mahlman at the 255th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
