The Riley Mahlman selection is the head-turner. The Packers reached 45 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. For now it grades a C-, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
If Gennings Dunker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Gennings Dunker in pick No. 55, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Keylan Rutledge a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Daylen Everette in Round 3, Pick 23, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Davison Igbinosun at the 94th pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in slot 120 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Max Llewellyn at the 123rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kage Casey in the 135th pick, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Demond Claiborne this early at the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They went early on Nate Boerkircher in slot 153, and the value did not follow. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach on Louis Moore in the 160th overall pick; the board had better options right there. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Cole Payton at No. 161 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Lander Barton at Round 6, Pick 20, well ahead of any board in the building. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Robert Spears-Jennings at pick 236 squarely in line with his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
