Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent Round 6, Pick 30 on Bryce Foster, a name most had 51 spots down the list. The final tally is a middling C-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hurst. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Gennings Dunker in the 55th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 59 with a little surplus value in Chase Bisontis. It fills a real need, too.
Davison Igbinosun in slot 84 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ted Hurst slipping to the 99th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for DeMonte Capehart at Round 4, Pick 6, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tacario Davis slid further than he should have, and pick 120 is lovely value for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kage Casey at pick No. 121 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.

A big swing on Cole Payton at the 153rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They went early on Louis Moore in slot 160, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.

A wild overpay on Riley Mahlman in No. 255, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
