Green Bay Packers

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Packers to a D-.

Future C+

The Packers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending slot 157 on Braiden McGregor a full 46 spots early.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Bishop pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Wilson.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 13
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a sticky cover corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 25
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jordan Morgan in pick No. 41. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 65
The board had cheaper options than Zach Frazier at No. 57, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 79
They took Malachi Corley at par in the 79th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 95
Zak Zinter in slot 88 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 70
Payton Wilson at pick 91 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
They went early on Jaden Hicks in the Round 3 slot, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 129
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Cole Bishop in the 113th overall pick leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
R4.14 · Pick 114 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 96
The board fumbled Tyler Davis all the way to Round 4, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 133
A conviction pick on Will Shipley at the 116th pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 155
A wild overpay on Braelon Allen in No. 132, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 195
This one needs a full-page explanation: JD Bertrand in pick 156, miles early. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Braiden McGregor · DL-EDGE · rank 203
Braiden McGregor in pick No. 157 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
