You build a draft on nights like this. Javon Baker had no business being available in Round 7, Pick 23, and the Packers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins is a better player than the 25th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamren Kinchens at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kris Jenkins at pick 57. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Kingsley Suamataia at No. 88 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A running back of that caliber at slot 91 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 126 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They did well to land Jaylen Wright in Round 5, Pick 32, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
LaDarius Henderson at the 203rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 216 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
You do not let a wide receiver like Javon Baker reach the 243rd overall pick and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Omar Speights in No. 251 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
