The Chiefs did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dillon Johnson fell into pick No. 161. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let a cornerback like T.J. Tampa reach Round 2, Pick 29 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Junior Colson at the 92nd pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at slot 129, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Dillon Johnson at No. 161 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Brennan Jackson in pick No. 171 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trey Knox at pick 175 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on De'Corian Clark in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
