The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They will need Cephus to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Suamataia falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Drake Maye in pick No. 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyler Guyton at No. 36 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at the 40th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They talked themselves into Patrick Paul at pick 67, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kingsley Suamataia slipping to Round 3, Pick 14 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Myles Cole well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Tip Reiman in the 152nd pick, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Joshua Cephus in slot 222 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
