The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
The Sainristil value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Briggs pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
They jumped the gun on Kris Jenkins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sedrick Van Pran at No. 69 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Mike Sainristil in pick 87 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at slot 106, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A tidy bit of business in the 139th pick, where Josh Newton graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had AJ Barner higher than the 173rd pick, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Luke McCaffrey in No. 183 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Jowon Briggs in the 223rd overall pick says they were not listening. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, KT Leveston in Round 7, Pick 36, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
