Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Commanders spent slot 29 on David Walker, a name the board had a full 143 spots lower. It nets out a thoroughly average C.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Knight Jr.. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
It grades out a shrug today, with plenty of room to move either way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Good price on Isaiah Bond in pick 61, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Demetrius Knight Jr. was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cody Simon slipping to pick No. 148 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Luke Lachey is a better player than slot 207 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Jaishawn Barham in the 238th overall pick, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing LaJohntay Wester in the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
