You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jermayne Lole at the Round 7 slot, roughly 59 spots before his name belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. James falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 30 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
D.J. James at No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Audric Estime in the 88th pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached a country mile for Luke McCaffrey at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylan Ford at Round 4, Pick 24 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
