You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jermayne Lole at the Round 7 slot, roughly 59 spots before his name belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. James falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
In pick No. 30 they get a building block for the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 58
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · D.J. James · CB · rank 62
D.J. James at No. 87 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 98
A reach on Audric Estime in the 88th pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.30 · Pick 93 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 141
They reached a country mile for Luke McCaffrey at the Round 3 slot, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 177
Jaylan Ford at Round 4, Pick 24 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Isaiah Neyor · WR · rank 218
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaiah Neyor. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 214
Myles Jones at the 212th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Jermayne Lole · DL-EDGE · rank 304
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jermayne Lole in slot 245, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
