Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chargers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Tupuola-Fetui where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Adding Foyesade Oluokun by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Adonai Mitchell in the 37th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 48th pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Blake Corum at slot 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Max Melton at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tommy Eichenberg a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy little value on Kamal Hadden in pick No. 142, a step better than break-even. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in No. 183 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
