Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chargers came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
T.J. Tampa in pick No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Brenden Rice at pick 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Ray Davis at par in the 105th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Jaylan Ford in No. 183, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
