The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Getting Gray where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Nix has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Bo Nix a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Chris Braswell in the 68th pick, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Malachi Corley in pick 72 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Fair-plus on Cooper Beebe, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Michael Pratt at par in No. 103, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Kamal Hadden went about where he belonged in the 139th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
You do not let a linebacker like Cedric Gray reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Cody Schrader, who had no business lasting to slot 182. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
