You build a draft on nights like this. Tykee Smith had no business being available in No. 137, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
So much rides on Marvin Harrison Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in the 19th overall pick with a little surplus value in Dallas Turner. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
In No. 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tykee Smith in pick No. 137, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamal Hadden at pick 163 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
