Nobody else had Carson Steele anywhere near the Round 6 slot. The Cowboys did, by 47 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
Getting Suamataia where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Kingsley Suamataia was still sitting there in No. 87, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 26 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Jefferson. The roster fit checks out.
Carson Steele at pick 212 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Collin Schlee at the 245th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
